LOT 300 1798 S-171 R4 Small 8, Style II Hair F12. Sharpness VF30 with light corrosion covering most of the right half of the obverse. The remainder of the planchet is smooth. No verdigris. The best identifying mark is a shallow planchet chip under the first 0 in the denominator. Lightly burnished, now recolored glossy chocolate and darker steel. LDS, Breen state VI, with a strong cud break left of the L in LIBERTY and an arcing die crack through TY to the rim off the chin. The field outside this crack is sunken indicating that section had become a retained cud. Less than a dozen known in this die state.

LOT 301 1798 S-172 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair, PCGS graded XF40. Frosty medium chocolate and olive brown. Sharp and attractive but there are some contact marks. The notable ones are a half dozen hairline scratches in the field behind the portrait, a minor rim bruise under the 7, and another small rim bruise opposite the end of the nose. MDS, Breen state IV, with a rim cud connecting the top of the Y to the rim. Our grade is VF35 net VF25+. 1434.40/30437697

LOT 302 1798 S-175 R3 Small 8, Style II Hair, PCGS graded VF30. Slightly frosty chocolate and steel brown with lighter steel brown on the devices. A bit dull from fine roughness and there is crud and fine verdigris in protected areas, mostly on the reverse. The only notable marks are two light horizontal scratches left of the upper end of the hair ribbon. LDS, Breen state IV, with a cud break at the U and die cracks on the reverse. Our grade is VF25+ sharpness net VF20. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 36095.30/12424738
