INDIANAPOLIS EAC 2024  THE DR. RUBY S-40

LOT 198 1794 S-40 R5+ G6. Slightly sharper but covered with fine roughness and there are light scratches lost in the toning on both sides. No verdigris. There are minor rim nicks and bruises on both sides, none distracting. Olive brown in the fields and protected areas with light brown on the devices. LDS, Heck state 5, Breen state V, with strong swelling on the reverse that obliterates CEN into the wreath below. The date is weak but easily readable and most of the legend outside the wreath is strong. Comes with a nice provenance.

LOT 200 1794 S-44 R1 VG7. Sharpness near F12 with fine roughness covering the planchet, strongest on the reverse. No verdigris and the only notable contact marks are a dull rim nick at the C in AMERICA and a short scratch at the U in UNITED. EDS, Breen state I, with no die cracks on the reverse. The date is strong and only a couple letters of the legend are weak or gone.

LOT 199 1794 S-41 R3 VF25+. Mostly glossy reddish chocolate brown with lighter brown toning on the highpoints. The obverse is lighter and more glossy than the reverse. Sharper by at 5-10 points but there are traces of fine verdigris on the reverse, especially at the T in CENT, and a few contact marks. The notable marks are a light rim bruise before the nose and a shallow scuff at CENT into the bow below. Sharply struck M-LDS, Breen state VII, Heck state 8,with strong die cracks on the reverse and clash marks on both sides. The reverse is rotated 15 degrees CCW. Graded net VF30 and tied for CC#6 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net VF25 and tied for CC#9, his photo #20228.



LOT 201 1794 S-50 R5 PCGS VG Detail, Damage. Sharpness VG7 but covered with fine to moderate granularity under slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel toning. No verdigris but there is a bit of yellowish scale at RT in LIBERTY and around the fraction. The only notable contact mark is a sharp diagonal nick over the right side of the 4. The date is complete and easily readable and the legends are readable in spite of weakness on a few letters at the top of the wreath. Our grade is net G4. The attribution and Trollan provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 35612.98/36135543
