LOT 383 1803 NC-1 R5+ G4. Slightly sharper but covered with fine roughness under rather glossy chocolate brown and steel toning. The reverse is considerably sharper than the obverse. There are specks of raised verdigris on the obverse, especially around the date. The notable marks are a thin nick off the lower end of the hair ribbon, a small chip on the bust, a pair of nicks at the rim before the nose, and a stronger nick at the top of the first A in AMERICA. EDS, Breen state I, with an uncracked reverse. The date is complete and easily readable and the legends on the reverse are strong for the grade.

LOT 382 1803 S-265 R4 Large Date and Fraction VG8. Several points sharper but the fields and protected areas are covered with very fine granularity. No verdigris but there are some contact marks including a rim bruise left of the L in LIBERTY, several light scratches in the field before the portrait (all blended into the toning), a planchet chip on the bottom of the neck, and a collection of tiny ticks at the B in LIBERTY. Only the rim bruise is a distraction. MDS, Breen state III, with die cracks on the reverse. The date and legends are clear but there is weakness at STATES OF due to the die state.

 SHARP 1804 EARLY STATE

LOT 384 1804 S-266a R4+ PCGS AU Details Smoothed. A very sharp example but the planchet has been smoothed, especially the obverse fields. Both sides show fine roughness, mostly in the fields on the reverse. No verdigris and the only notable contact marks are some faint lines added in the hair details to enhance their sharpness. The eye appeal of the obverse is really nice but a glass reveals the sad truth. Glossy light to medium chocolate and olive brown. EDS, Breen state I, with no cracks or cuds. The repunching on the 4 is clear. Our grade is VF20 sharpness net F15+.
